Frequently Asked Questions

Finding the right dietitian for you

Who do you work with?

I work with adults (18+) based in Australia to support them through their eating concerns and find a more positive relationship with food and their bodies, including those with eating disorders.  If you are under 18 or not living in Australia you are most welcome to get in touch and I can provide details of other dietitians who could provide support.

Do you work with people with eating disorders?

Yes, I provide nutrition support to adults experiencing eating disorders who are medically stable and supported by both their psychologist and GP.

Will you help me lose weight?

Rather than offering weight loss strategies, I can support you in working towards a more peaceful relationship with food and your body, just as you are.  If you are seeking support for general health or a health condition, I'll also provide nutrition advice to support you whilst prioritising a positive relationship with food and your body.
We can also explore how you feel about your weight, the experiences you have had and the different things that have or continue to impact your relationship with your body.  However rather than focusing on weight loss, we would instead make space for all the thoughts and feelings that can come along with this, and as you feel ready to, explore ways to feel better in your body as you are.

Can you help me manage my nutrition related health condition?

Yes, I can help you manage your health and nutrition whilst also supporting you to find a positive relationship with food and your body.  I have included a list on my services page including health conditions I can support you with.  If you are experiencing another health condition and would like to know if it is something I can help you with, you are welcome to get in touch.

Appointments

Can I see you for a face to face appointment?

I am not currently offering face to face appointments, and only offer online appointments.  Please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions about online appointments.

Do you offer online appointments?

Yes! All appointments are online (video call) via a secure telehealth platform, Doxyme.

How do online appointments work?

After you book in, you will be sent a link for your appointment for us to connect via video call using Doxyme, a secure telehealth platform.  There are no downloads or logins, it's as easy as clicking on the link and getting connected.
You will also be sent a secure online intake form which will gather relevant background information, so we can jump straight in when we meet online. Your payment information will be kept on file, and your card will be charged following each appointment and your Medicare rebate processed if applicable as well.  If you would prefer not to have your payment details on file, I can send payment links following each appointment and include details to process your own Medicare rebate (if applicable) if you prefer as well.  Your patient record and payment information is kept secure using Halaxy, a cloud-based practice management system.  It is protected by 256-bit bank-grade security and encryption, the same protection level required by banks.

Fees and Rebates

How much do appointments cost?

The first appointment is $200, and each follow up appointment is $160.

How will I pay for each appointment?

After booking your first appointment you will be sent a secure online intake form which will gather your payment information and Medicare details if applicable.  This will be kept on file, and your card will be charged and your Medicare rebate processed following each appointment.  If you would prefer for your payment information to not be kept on file, payment links can be sent following each appointment.  If you prefer you are also welcome to process your own Medicare rebate if applicable.

Are there rebates available?

If you have a chronic disease, you can claim Medicare rebates of $60.30 per consultation (up to 5 visits) if you are referred by your GP via a Chronic Disease Management Plan.  If you have an eating disorder, you can claim Medicare rebates of $60.30 per consultation (20 visits) if you are referred by your GP or psychiatrist via an Eating Disorder Plan.  Please speak with your GP to determine if you are eligible for either plan.

Please check with your private health insurer to determine your level of cover and eligibility for rebates.

Can I claim a Medicare rebate and private health insurance rebate on the same consultation?

Even if you are eligible for both a Medicare rebate and a private health insurance rebate, it is not possible to claim both on one consultation.

Do you accept NDIS referrals?

I accept NDIS plans that are self-managed or plan managed.  As I am not a registered provider, I am unable to accept NDIA managed plans.  If you are interested in using your NDIS funding to work together, please get in touch.

Do I need a referral to see you?

No, you don't need a referral for us to work together.  However, if you intend on claiming Medicare rebates for a Chronic Disease Management Plan or an Eating Disorder Plan please see your GP to obtain an appropriate referral if eligible.  If you are seeking support for an eating disorder,  please ensure you have a GP and psychologist as part of your health care team.

Rural and regional clients

I'm not sure if my internet is reliable enough for online appointments.  What happens if it cuts out?

If our connection cuts out, I'll give you a call and we can finish your session via phone.  You are also welcome to request your appointments to be via phone if you are concerned about an unreliable internet connection.

My GP and/or psychologist are new to supporting people with eating disorders.  Can they chat with you for more information?

Of course!  Provided they have your consent for us to chat about your care, they are most welcome to give me a ring.  I can also point them in the direction of useful resources, training as well as providing a summary of suggested medical monitoring to complete too.  I can also point them in the direction of secondary case consultation that is available that they could explore if they like too.  If you live in an area where GPs and/or psychologists don't stay long, I can provide  information and support for any new GPs or psychologists in your team as well.

I’m looking for a psychologist to add to my team, but there aren’t any with availability where I live.  Do you know any psychologists that also do online appointments?

Yes, I do!  You are most welcome to get in touch, and I can provide a few suggestions that you could look in to.

Where I live most health professionals don’t stay for very long.  How long will we be able to work together?

As long as you are finding it supportive and helpful! The beauty of online appointments means that we can continue our work together if one or both of us happens to move somewhere else.
